Hellens is delighted to welcome this superb string quartet for a concert in the Great Barn.
John Mills (violin)
Jeremy Isaac (violin)
Lydia Lowndes-Northcott (viola)
Bozidar Vukotic (cello)
Programme:
John Ireland String Quartet No 1 in D minor
Ian Venables String Quartet Op 32
Schubert String Quartet in D minor D810 ‘Death and the Maiden’
In this concert, as part of the musical celebrations to mark the 70th birthday year of the highly acclaimed composer Ian Venables, the outstanding Tippett Quartet will be performing Venables’ String Quartet, a compact and most arresting work of melodic richness, harmonic incident, varied intensity and very real beauty. The programme will open with John Ireland’s youthful String Quartet, where the influences of Beethoven and Brahms can be heard but also the early emergence of a new musical voice. In the second half of the concert, the Tippett Quartet will play one of the perennial glories of chamber music, Schubert’s ‘Death and the Maiden’ Quartet, a work of riveting drama which also finds room for the most affecting poetic utterance. Ian Venables lives in Worcester and is a valued Trustee of Hellensmusic.
Haywain bar and doors open 30 minutes prior to performance.
Tickets £20 (students and carers free).
