Stretching nearly ten metres in total, this remarkable crewelwork frieze serves as a visual chronicle of Hellens Manor, spanning from pre-1066 to the present day. Conceived in 2017, the piece was brought to life over eight years by a dedicated team of thirteen Arts Society Heritage Volunteers. The embroidery stands as a testament to meticulous craftsmanship and creative collaboration. Using traditional techniques and heritage shades of crewel wool, the volunteers have captured the manor’s rich story from its earliest inhabitants and noble families, to the stunning landscape of the Marcle Ridge, heritage trees, and traditional orchards.
This special one-day exhibition offers a unique opportunity to view the ten-metre-long embroidery on display in the Great Barn. There will also be a chance to view recordings of the historical research, the design’s evolution, extensive samples, and source materials.
