Helen (wondersofwillow.com) and Clair (rushmorebaskets.com) are artists and teachers who share their love of these natural materials.
In groups of five you will make a rush bread basket on one day and an asymmetric willow basket on the other.
Clair will guide you through the process of making your own unique rush bread basket. Rush is a wonderfully soft material to use, and creates beautiful, textural baskets. This bread basket introduces the basic techniques of rush. It will be made over a mould to achieve the final shape. At the end of the course you will have a basket to take home.
Spend one day weaving an asymmetric willow basket with Helen, start by creating a traditional round base, stake and strand upset, then finish off with a stepped-up asymmetric border, topped off with a unique stick handle. You will use a selection of different willow varieties to create your own design and Helen will guide you through the process to ensure you have a stunning and unique basket to take home. (If you have your own special stick please bring it along otherwise I’ll have plenty to choose from.)
