Textile artist Sarah Brooker will be running a one day workshop, exploring the unique process of wet felting and the magical capacity for mark making….
The morning will be focused on drawing, using the fabulous gardens of Hellens Manor as our inspiring backdrop. (As it will be in Autumn we will be hoping the weather stays calm, but if not the flora may be foraged or brought from home). Using the glorious variety of plants and your own favourite mark making drawing tools and sketchbook; charcoal, crayon, pastels etc, we will explore the various textures and colours that abound.
After the felting process has been explained there will be a short demonstration from Sarah and then you will embark on using the merino fleeces plus any other natural fibres brought along from home to incorporate into your piece. Using your drawings from the morning, you will create a wall piece, durable, colourfast and colourful! Please bring along any extra materials, drawing kit and your imaginations.
Sarah Brooker studied fine art at Portsmouth Polytechnic, followed by an MA in textiles at Goldsmiths College where she learnt the process of felt making. Sarah exhibits widely in the UK and has undertaken commissions in Europe and from her own studios. She was resident maker at New Brewery Arts in Cirencester for fifteen years and taught on foundation courses at Portsmouth, Southampton University and Hereford Art College and has taken various textile workshops over the years.

Basic felting kit will be provided, with various dyed Merino fleeces… if you wish please bring extra fibres, a few tea towels, and your own rubber gloves.
A light vegetarian lunch and refreshments will be provided.
